ABOVE are the front and reverse views for the Condor Legion Next of Kin award that is with this lot. This medal is made out of solid bronze and is marked on the reverse side of its upper left arm with the maker identification "L 21". The name GODET und Sohn Berlin also appears in the center of the lower arm. Close ups of both marks have been included below for reference.

I originally purchased this piece, together with the original award document and a number of other German items from a U.S. WW II veteran who was then living in the Beaver Falls, PA area more than thirty years ago. At that time, his cellar had been flooded and the trunk in which the items were stored had been completely water logged.

While this had only modest impact on the flag, dress bayonet and other medals that I obtained in that purchase, it virtually destroyed the off white colored, heavy stock folder with an eagle on its cover that the award document was originally presented in.

As you will see in the subsequent pictures of the award document itself, while it was also heavily damaged, I simply could not bring myself to simply throw it away under any circumstance. The dark color of the ribbon also came from its exposure to water at that time, which I never attempted to clean.
