UNIT MARKED HITLER YOUTH FLAK HELPER'S HELMET WITH INSIGNIA
Even the term "exceptionally rare"
fails to do justice to the rarity of the
Hitler Youth Flak Helper's helmet
being offered here. Simply put, in
almost fifty years of collecting World
War II era German items, this is the
first and only surviving Flak Helper's
helmet of its kind that I have ever
seen or heard of.
As can be clearly seen in the photos
presented on this page, this helmet
was initially painted in a very dark
blue/black, color and still retains
about 85% of its original paint.
While not easily observed in these
various photos, the 15% of its paint
that is missing is confined to the
area of its crown and upper sides,
and appears to be the from the
simple impact of normal wear.
In addition, the helmet also has three
(3) small impact dents in its front,
and one (1) on its back side, as well
as a number of other minor chips in
various places. None of these serve
to lessen, however, either the visual
impact, nor its historical importance
of this particular helmet which stands
as a one of a kind piece that merits a
place of distinction in any collection
of World War II German headgear.
ABOVE is a full left side view of this Luftwaffe Flak Helper's Helmet as was worn by
a member of the Hitler Youth. Clearly visible in this photo is the size and position
of the distinct Luftwaffe Flak Helpers insignia, together with the unit designation
"173" below it in red.
BELOW is a full view of the right side of the helmet exhibiting the traditional Hitler Youth diamond shaped emblem in the red, white and black national colors.
BELOW RIGHT is an enlarged view of the Hitler Youth diamond emblem that is
hand painted on the right side of this Luftwaffe Flak Helper's Helmet.
