Item: Item 001 German Army WWII M36 Field Tunic
SKU: CS 001 TS
Item 001 German Army WWII M36 Field Tunic
Price: $950.00

Item 001

German Army WWII M36 Field Tunic
The item being offered for sale here appears to be an original, green wool, Model 1936 German Army World War II era enlisted man's Field Service Tunic (Heeres Dienstanzug). As seen in the photographs accompanying this description, its principle features include pronounced scalloped pocket flaps with under lining, subdued pebble finished buttons, a five (5) button front closure design with a metal neck clip, two (2) metal belt hooks permanently sewn into its reverse side, a machine sewn eagle and collar tabs, a rear seat slit and a separately attached dark green pressed wool collar.

This tunic also features two subdued unit marked "6" shoulder board buttons, a set of slip on style shoulder boards with signal piping color, a sewn on signal blitz on its right arm, denoting the wear as being a radio operator, with a silver brocade corporal's rank chevron sewn directly below it. In comparing this item with the more well known Model 1935 tunic, it should be noted that this particular tunic is only partially lined, Further, it lacks the interior dressing pocket or three (3) buttons on the inside of its collar for attachment of a neckband that the Model 1935 tunic possesses. It should be further noted that it has no interior manufacturing marks of any kind that the seller can locate.

The poor quality of the above photo makes this tunic appear to be somewhat dull, but it is in fact a vibrant Army Green colored uniform that appears to be absolutely original to the pre May 1945 period, without changes or modifications of any kind. Moreover, it is unit marked to the 6th Infantry Division, with the wearer apparently having served as a radio operator in that command.

Picture shows the chevron and signal operator blitz.

Here is an enlarged picture of the eagle.

Here is a picture of the belt holders and the back flap.

For provenance purposes, this tunic came out of the private collection of a life long collector of German militaria who previously passed away ten (10) years ago. Since then, it has remained in the sole possession of his widow, who like the seller that is now disposing of it on her behalf, unfortunately knows nothing about its history or who her husband may have acquired it from. As such, it is being sold in this instance on an "as is" basis with its various physical characteristics being required to speak for themselves. Consistent with that approach, the various characteristics that this tunic shares with both the Model 1935 and Model 1940 field blouse respectively, clearly identifies it as being representative of a transition point in the development process which German industry employed after the start of the war to produce a larger volume of product by producing more efficient designs, while simultaneously eliminating cosmetic features that require extensive production time or require scarce raw materials.

Incidentally, the seller will be similarly listing the balance of this deceased collector's German military items on auction in the near future. Should you desire an advance listing of these items, we will be happy to send it to you.
