Item: 1938 S/42 9MM LUGER PISTOL
SKU: 9MMLUGER-1938
1938 S/42 9MM LUGER PISTOL
Price: $9,500.00

This item is an extremely rare, pre war production (1938 dated) 9mm Luger. The weapon has all matching numbered parts, to include its magazine, and has 99% of its original bluing still intact, while showing only very slight dings here, with no holster wear of any kind.

This Luger is marked "S/42" and "1938" on its receiver, which denotes that it was manufactured by the Mauser works at Obendorf in 1938. The right side of the weapon shows four (4) individual acceptance stamps, including a death head with SS runes, confirming that it had been issued and accepted into the ordnance of the SS Verfugungstruppe.

For reference, the SS-VT was the forerunner of the Waffen SS, which itself did not officially come into administrative existence until 15 August 1940. In furtherance to this point, in 1938, when this weapon was made and issued, the SS-VT consisted of only three (3) skeleton regiments on paper. In summary, this meant that the actual number of lugers that the SS-VT organization would have required at that time would certainly have been less than 2,500 weapons.

As such, from a collecting standpoint, this item is even far rarer in total numbers than the Knight's Cross, of which more than 7,000 were issued by the end of the war, Moreover, its unbelievably good condition makes it an artifact of interest not only to German militaria collectors, but also to gun collectors as well, whether they actually have any particular interest in Third Reich items or not.

Incidentally, as a post script, the individual that I originally obtained this particular Luger from, who was the son of a deceased US WWII veteran, represented to me that his father claimed that it had originally belonged to the commander of the SS-VT Division in France, SS Obergruppenfuhrer and General der Waffen SS Paul Hausser, from whose personal residence he liberated it. While the early date and condition of this weapon makes that report highly possible, the seller, unfortunately, lacked any proof to substantiate it. Consequently, it is mentioned here for information purposes only and is not part of the item sales description which stand on its own merits.

As a firearm, please note that this item will only be sold by RARE MILITARIA in strict accord with all applicable state, local and federal laws pertaining to weapon sales and shipping restrictions.
